Dolby Laboratories Introduces Premium Dolby Cinema in India

Dolby Laboratories has officially announced the arrival of Dolby Cinema in India, bringing an unparalleled cinematic experience to select theatres across the country. Moviegoers can expect enhanced visual fidelity with Dolby Vision and immersive surround sound with Dolby Atmos, making every frame and sound more engaging. This premium theatre format, already popular in various international markets, will soon be available to Indian audiences who seek a superior movie-watching experience.

With this launch, India joins a growing list of countries benefiting from Dolby’s cutting-edge cinema technology. Audiences in select cities will be able to enjoy their favourite films in stunning clarity, deeper blacks, higher contrast, and lifelike audio that transports them into the world of the movie.

Dolby Partners With Six Major Exhibitors for Dolby Cinema in India:

Dolby Laboratories has partnered with six prominent theatre chains to roll out Dolby Cinema in India. The following locations will be among the first to offer the premium Dolby Cinema experience:

  • City Pride Cinemas – Pune

  • Allu Cineplex – Hyderabad

  • LA Cinema – Trichy

  • AMB Cinemas – Bengaluru

  • EVM Cinemas – Kochi

  • G Cineplex – Ulikkal

These exhibitors will soon integrate Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technology into their theatres, ensuring that viewers experience unmatched audio-visual quality.

What Sets Dolby Cinema Apart?

Dolby Cinema is not just an upgrade—it’s a transformation of how movies are experienced. The technology enhances:

  • Dolby Vision: Offers richer colours, deeper blacks, and higher contrast to bring every scene to life.

  • Dolby Atmos: Creates immersive, dynamic audio that moves around the theatre, making sound more realistic.

  • Theatre Design: Each Dolby Cinema is optimized to ensure that every seat feels like the “best seat in the house”.

Dolby Vision Expands in India with Post-Production Facility at Annapurna Studios

The expansion of Dolby Cinema is not limited to theatres alone. Earlier this year, Dolby Laboratories launched India’s first Dolby-certified post-production facility for cinema in collaboration with Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad. This landmark facility will allow filmmakers to create content in the Dolby Cinema format, ensuring that Indian films meet global standards in picture and sound quality.

Michael Archer, VP of Worldwide Cinema Sales and Partner Management at Dolby Laboratories, called this development a “pivotal moment for the country’s entertainment sector.”

Dolby’s presence in India is already well-established, with 24 Dolby Atmos theatrical mixing facilities supporting the production of high-quality content. The launch of Dolby Vision in theatres and post-production means Indian filmmakers now have more tools to bring their creative vision to life in the best possible way.

Dolby’s Global Expansion and Innovation

The first Dolby Cinema theatre was opened in 2014, and since then, Dolby Laboratories has partnered with 35 exhibitors across 14 countries. The company continues to expand its presence in India’s fast-growing entertainment market, where premium viewing experiences are gaining traction.

At CES 2024, Dolby also introduced Dolby Vision for Cars, bringing its state-of-the-art visual technology beyond cinemas and into the automotive industry. This move highlights Dolby’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of entertainment and technology.
