iPhone 16 and 16 Pro Displays Set for June Production; Pro Max to Feature Enhanced Battery

Apple enthusiasts have a lot to look forward to with the upcoming iPhone 16 series, slated for launch in the latter half of 2024. According to insights shared by Ross Young, CEO and Co-Founder of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), component production for Apple’s next-generation smartphones is set to kick off in the coming weeks. Specifically, production of displays for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models will commence in June, positioning these models as the primary focus due to their expected high demand.

Display Production and Model Launch Sequence

Young, in a subscriber-only post on X (formerly Twitter), detailed that Apple will prioritize the production of displays for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. The other two models in the series, the iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro Max, will follow at a later stage. This strategic move is likely driven by the projected volume for these initial models, ensuring a timely release and meeting consumer demand efficiently .

Enhanced Battery for iPhone 16 Pro Max

Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF Securities International, provided additional exciting news for Apple fans. According to Kuo, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will receive a significant upgrade in its battery technology. The new battery will boast a higher energy density than the one in the current iPhone 15 Pro Max. This enhancement could potentially translate to a notable improvement in battery life if Apple maintains the same battery capacity as its 2023 flagship model .

In addition to the battery upgrade, Kuo also mentioned that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature a stainless steel frame. This would be a departure from the aluminium used in current models, potentially offering a more premium feel and increased durability .

Display Enhancements and Size Increases

Further details about the iPhone 16 series suggest significant enhancements in display technology and size adjustments for the Pro models. Leaked dummy images and previous reports indicate that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will debut with larger screens, measuring 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches, respectively. These sizes represent a 0.2-inch increase over the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max .

The iPhone 16 Pro models are also expected to feature upgraded OLED screens that offer a 20 percent increase in peak brightness for standard dynamic range (SDR) content. This improvement means SDR content could be displayed at a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, enhancing the visual experience. However, the peak brightness for high dynamic range (HDR) content is likely to remain at 1,600 nits .
