Subhadra Yojana: 20 Lakh More Beneficiaries to Receive First Instalment of Funds – Key Details and Updates

The Odisha government’s Subhadra Yojana is set to expand its reach, with around 20 lakh new beneficiaries expected to receive their first instalment of funds by the end of November. As part of the state’s commitment to women’s financial empowerment, the scheme provides monetary support to eligible women, with an impressive rollout involving Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram attending the upcoming distribution ceremony.

Subhadra Yojana Details:

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17, the Subhadra Yojana is a flagship scheme aimed at enhancing women’s financial security by providing periodic monetary assistance. Each beneficiary is eligible to receive a total of Rs 50,000 over five years, delivered in annual instalments of Rs 10,000 split into two disbursements of Rs 5,000 each. The scheme targets women across Odisha, with a special focus on those from economically vulnerable backgrounds, providing a reliable source of income.

So far, the program has distributed Rs 5,000 each to approximately 60 lakh women beneficiaries across two phases. The first phase benefited 25 lakh women, and in the second phase, 35 lakh women received financial aid on October 9.

Phase Three of Disbursement – Key Details

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida announced that 20 lakh more beneficiaries are slated to receive their first instalment of Rs 5,000 on November 24. This distribution will take place during a function in Sundergarh, where the beneficiaries will be joined by key officials, including Union Ministers, who will underscore the importance of women-centric welfare initiatives.

A notable development in the Subhadra Yojana is its expansion to include Anganwadi workers, a demographic essential to grassroots welfare services across the state. These workers play a vital role in rural development, health, and education. However, the scheme specifically excludes families with government employees to ensure the benefits reach those who need them most.

Future Phases and Financial Goals

Following the third phase in November, the remaining eligible beneficiaries will receive their funds in a fourth phase planned for December. With a target to cover 1 crore women across the state, the program’s extensive scope underscores the Odisha government’s commitment to women’s financial empowerment and economic inclusivity. Over the next five years, the scheme aims to disburse a cumulative Rs 50,000 to each beneficiary, adding a significant economic boost for rural and low-income women.

Despite the program’s broad reach, some applications have been rejected due to various eligibility issues, with an estimated 2.67 lakh women currently excluded. The government has instructed panchayat offices to publish the rejection lists, providing transparency and an opportunity for applicants to address any discrepancies. Beneficiaries with incomplete or incorrect bank details are being offered guidance to rectify these issues and will be accommodated in subsequent phases of disbursement.

How Subhadra Yojana is Benefiting Odisha’s Women

1.Financial Stability: For many women, especially in rural areas, Subhadra Yojana provides a reliable, semi-annual financial source, helping with daily expenses, medical needs, and educational support for their children.

2.Economic Empowerment: The financial aid empowers women to make independent decisions and contribute to family income, reducing the economic burden on their households.

3.Boosting Inclusivity: By specifically excluding families with government employees, the scheme ensures that the funds directly reach women in the most financially vulnerable categories, creating a more equitable distribution of resources.

4.Strengthening Grassroots Development: By including Anganwadi workers, the government highlights their role in rural development and aims to provide them with the economic support they deserve.
